UNE PREMIERE MONDIALE

C’est grâce à ses oratorios que Haendel est devenu le premier « classique » de l’histoire musicale. Devant le succès du genre de l’oratorio anglais qu’il créa et l’appétit insatiable du public pour ce qu’on appelait « la meilleure musique jamais composée », des compositeurs et des proches de Haendel se donnèrent la peine d’extraire de nouveaux oratorios de ses manuscrits originaux. Nous présentons ici le premier enregistrement mondial de l’un de ces chefs-d’œuvre, qui est également l’un des premiers documents du culte haendélien. Il s’agit d’un pasticcio qui se trouve actuellement parmi les trésors de la British Library et qui passait longtemps pour une création du compositeur lui-même. Déjà, les contemporains le considéraient «la meilleure Compilation qui ait été faite des Œuvres du grand Maître» (Londres, 1770).
